For some, a week is far too long to wait between episodes to find out what is happening and to see our favourite faces again. A distraction is necessary from the suspense and a Targaryen hole must be filled. So, here are other shows you can watch the cast of House of the Dragon cast next to satisfy your dragon hunger between each episode.

Matt Smith plays the formidable yet selfish Daemon Targaryen, uncle and eventual husband of Rhaenyra. As one of the most famous names in the cast, Matt  has been in plenty of TV shows and movies in his career, but none more iconic than his three year tenure as the 11th Doctor in Doctor Who.

That’s not all for his TV appearances, as Matt Smith also portrayed Prince Phillip in the first two seasons of Netflix’s The Crown. Matt has also been in a few Hollywood movies as well as, starring opposite Jared Leto as the villain Milo in Sony’s 2022 Marvel film, Morbius, and playing the menacing Jack in Edgar Wright’s horror-mystery Last Night in Soho.

Emma D’Arcy

Emma D’Arcy is the face of House of the Dragon, starring as Rhaenyra Targaryen, the rightful heir to the iron throne. Although their role in the Game of Thrones prequel series is certainly their biggest yet, they have also appeared in a number of other TV shows. Emma has played supporting roles in Truth Seekers, Netlfix’s Wanderlust and Mothering Sunday.

They’ve also been busy on the West End, performing alongside Ben Wishaw and Kayla Meikle at the Royal Court Theatre in the critically acclaimed show Bluets.

As the wonderfully passionate and loyal Alicent Hightower, Olivia Cooke’s performance in House of the Dragon is phenomenal, and it shows that she has got a seasoned career already at just 30 years old. Olivia has been the lead actress in several blockbuster movies, including Art3mis in Ready Player One, Lou in Sound of Metal and Rachel in Me and Earl and The Dying Girl.

On top of that, she’s also starred in plenty of TV series including Vanity Fair as Becky Sharp and Bates Motel as Emma Decody.

Paddy Considine

With one of the best performances in the first season of the show, it is sad to think that we will not be seeing any more of Paddy Considine’s character, Viserys Targaryen, King of Westeros. Thankfully, Paddy has already starred in many movies and TV shows.

Paddy was the main antagonist of the third series of Peaky Blinders as Father Hughes, and played alongside Jason Statham in Blitz as Porter Nash. Paddy also appeared in The World’s End and Hot Fuzz as Steven Prince and PC Wainwright respectively.

Ewan Mitchell

Playing the menacing Aemond Targaryen, Ewan Mitchell has a face that seems perfect for medieval fantasy television having also played Osferth in multiple seasons of The Last Kingdom.

At the start of his blossoming career, Ewan has appeared in many big shows or movies but you may certainly recognise him as the somewhat creepy Michael Gavey in Saltburn.

Milly Alcock

As the young Rhaenyra, Milly Alcock left a mark on viewers, who were stunned by her captivating performance, which also caught the eye of DC Studios CEO, James Gunn, who cast her as Supergirl in the upcoming Superman film.

The Australian actress previously spent two months in London playing Abigail Williams in a modern staging of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, and was also the lead actress in the successful romantic comedy series Upright that first aired in 2019.

Rhys Ifans

Playing the intelligent, stern and collected Otto Hightower in House of the Dragon, Rhys Ifans is a man of impeccable range. Having played Dr. Curt Connors in The Amazing Spider-man and Grigori Rasputin in The King’s Man, the Welsh actor has shown he can be a menacing villain. Yet, the extremely loveable Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the insanely iconic Spike in Notting Hill shows that he can be the good guy too.

If that range doesn’t showcase his talent, then its worth mentioning that Rhys was also the frontman of the Peth and Super Furry Animals.

Eve Best

Eve Best is a seasoned stage actress, having won the Olivier award for best actress for her performance as the titular character in Hedda Gabler back in 2006. She’s also played regular roles in both Nurse Jackie (2009-2015) and Maryland (2023-present) as Dr Eleanor O’Hara and Rosaline respectively.

As the Lord of the Tides, Corlys Valaryon is one of the coolest characters in House of the Dragon, and Steve Toussaint is just as cool as his role. Having a stage career spanning 20 years, Steve has appeared on various TV shows as well, playing Barrie Christie in the ‘9os show The Knock.

Matthew Needham

As creepy as Larys Strong was, Matthew Needham’s acting performance was fantastic in the first season of the show and his presence is only going to grow. Matthew’s skills come through again in his starring role as Greenwood in the 2015 short film Stutterer, which picked up six awards that year, including an academy award.

Matthew also played a small role as Napoleon’s brother, Lucien, in Ridley Scott’s recent blockbuster, Napoleon.

Much like Pixar movies, all of which have very unique vibes, the uni you go to also says a lot about you as a person. Even if you think you’re not the stereotype of every person at your uni, you very much are. Each uni has its own set of specific traits, and that includes what Pixar movie they’re most similar to.

The bleak landscape that is Warwick was actually the inspiration for Earth in Wall-E. The up-himself food critic in Ratatouille is modelled after posh Exeter students. And, Mr Incredible’s physique was designed after what Nottingham sports lads think they look like (but don’t). So, here’s all the Russell Group unis imagined as Pixar films.

York – Finding Dory

As one of the very few campus unis in the UK, York uni would be Finding Nemo for the pure reason that you have to work to find any sense of fun in that place. Also, Finding Nemo makes everyone sad, almost as sad as it makes York students when they remember that the most memorable thing about their uni is a dead duck.

Sheffield and Liverpool – A Bug’s Life

There’s not much to say about this comparison except that both Sheffield and Liverpool students and the film A Bug’s Life are slightly unconventional. Sheffield is known as the birthplace of indie music, Alex Turner being born and raised there, and like the Arctic Monkeys being ever so slightly alternative, A Big’s Life is a somewhat alternative Pixar film that not many would say is their number one.

Likewise, Liverpool’s student indie scene is recognised to be one of the best, so it just makes sense that it would be the indie Pixar film.

Manchester and Cardiff – Cars

Manchester and Cardiff have the same energy as Cars simply for the good vibes they both have. Manchester doesn’t take itself too seriously, and its recent resurge in trendiness as a city reminds me of how Radiator Springs gets a revival in tourism at the end of the film. Cardiff has also found its way back into relevance as a city as it’s become one of the more popular student cities in recent years.

Edinburgh and Bristol – Ratatouille

Edinburgh and Bristol students are so Ratatouille. Naturally, the film being set in Paris, it’s giving the second home in the South of France that half the students at these unis have, complete with flawless place pronunciation thanks to the private French tutor they had all throughout school.

The fine dining experience Remy dreams of providing is also a bit like how posh students do their weekly shops in Waitrose, and go for weekly brunch trips with the girlies every Saturday.

Leeds – Monsters Inc.

For starters, University of Leeds has to be Monsters Inc. purely for the uncanny resemblance the rugby boys rampant in Hyde Park have to Sully. Both think they’re big, but really aren’t all that.

A bit like how Mike and Sully think they’re really scary, Leeds students think they’re super edgy because of their half-arsed (and quite embarrassing) attempts at careers in DJing, crippling vape addictions and urgent need to tell everyone that their taste in music is underground.

UCL, LSE and KCL – Inside Out

All London students have serious Inside Out vibes. I feel like they’re normally putting on a front when they say being a student in London is actually fun. Having to pay an arm and a leg to get anywhere, eat anywhere or live anywhere is not the ideal student experience, and any time they tell you otherwise I just picture Joy holding Sadness in a headlock so she can’t say what they really feel: Absolute despair at the choice they made to go to uni in possibly the most inconvenient city to be on a budget.

Oxford and Cambridge – Toy Story

Priding themselves on being the OGs as some of the oldest universities in the world, Oxbridge have to be the first Pixar movie to come out. Aside from that, the unis both being small and spread into colleges means everyone knows everyone, so it’s kind of like a life-size Andy’s bedroom.

The slightly weird tradition of college husbands and wives sort of reminds me of how the Toy Story creators decided to make children’s toys date. There’s nothing explicitly wrong with either but something does feel a tad strange about it.

Glasgow – Brave

Being in Scotland, it’s no surprise that Glasgow has to be Brave. Not only do all the rowdy sports boys remind me of the clans, but the city is home to one of the funniest moments of pop culture history this year: The infamous Willy Wonka experience. The Unknown is as unsettling as the weird witch in the cave is, so it just adds up.

Durham and Exeter – Monsters University

Durham and Exeter were always going to be a sequels. Known mostly as the consolation prize for Oxbridge rejects, these two unis are the slightly disappointing alternatives. They do get some points for still being academically challenging unis, though, so it seems fitting to be the Monsters Inc. prequel set in an academic institution.

The college in Durham set-up very closely resembles all the frats and sororities in Monsters University too, each with their own stereotypes which morph every fresher into a clone of their college mates within the year.

Nottingham – The Incredibles

Uni of Nottingham screams The Incredibles mostly for its rep as a sporty uni. The hoardes of rugby boys definitely fancy themselves as Mr Incredibles, and back in the day when the scooters were still around, scooting down Derby Road was enough to make you drunkenly feel like you were flying – before you inevitably fell over and did some serious damage to your ankles or shins.

The way everyone magically shape shifts every week at Crisis depending on whatever horrifically embarrassing costume their society has made them wear this week, whether it’s babies or shit shirts, is an almost superhero quality in itself.

Warwick and Birmingham – Wall-E

Alliteration aside, Warwick would definitely be Wall-E. The wasteland Earth has become which Wall-E is trying to clean up bears a striking resemblance to the wastelands that are Coventry and Birmingham.

Devoid of any actual human life, just like Earth, Warwick students are stranded alone in a desolate dust bowl where the most exciting thing is Binley Mega Chippy.

Birmingham as a city gives off similarly dismal vibes to Coventry, but does have the benefit of students who actually act like they’ve been on planet Earth before, so Birmingham is definitely the later part of the film when the humans return. Still a shithole though.

Newcastle – Toy Story 2

Much like the newly freed animate children’s toys of Toy Story, Newcastle students run about the streets wreaking havoc wherever they go: Shagging flatmates, maxing out their overdraft on vapes, and decorating their mouldy student houses in the most unhinged ways they can think of. Not quite the same antics Woody and Buzz get up to in Toy Story, but you get the gist.

Last week, Ariana Grande laughed as she told Penn Badgley on his Podcrushed podcast that she found Dahmer “fascinating.” Shirley, mother of deaf and non verbal Tony Hughes who was killed in 1991 by Dahmer, has retaliated and said to TMZ: “To me, it seems like she’s sick in her mind. It’s not fancy or funny to say you would have wanted to do dinner with him.”

It was revealed that Ariana Grande had made the comment about Jeffrey Dahmer being her dream dinner date whilst at a Q&A for younger fans earlier in her career which she has been criticised for. Shirely Hughes said to TMZ: ”It’s also not something you should say to young people, which she says she did.”

According to TMZ, the mentioning of Dahmer caused upset for the families and Barbra, Tony’s sister said: “Unfortunately, until it happens to her and her family, she just doesn’t know what we have been through.”

Ariana Grande didn’t mention the victim’s families on the podcast after making the comment which Shirley said was “troubling.” Barbara said that Ariana needs to “apologise” so that fans know “this isn’t right.”

This isn’t the first instance the victims families have been upset about Dahmer being mentioned as when the Netflix show Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was released and Evan Peters won a Golden Globe, Shirley told TMZ: ”There’s a lot of sick people around the world, and people winning acting roles from playing killers keeps the obsession going and this makes sick people thrive on the fame.”

Shirley’s son Tony Hughes, was 31 when he was killed by Dahmer in 1991 when he met him at a bar. Dahmer killed and dismembered 17 men between 1978 and 1991.

Currently, Ariana Grande’s team have not responded to the situation.

Umm, so wait a minute that means that Daeron Targaryen is actually Viserys and Alicent’s youngest child in House of the Dragon, and he could be making an appearance in the show soon! But who actually is he in the books? Let’s find out!

In the books, he is regarded as the “gentlest” of all the children and is around the same age as Jacaerys. Viserys requests both Jacaerys and Daemon share the same nurse to help them bond but sadly he ends up hating his cousin just like his siblings. In the House of the Dragon, Daeron Targaryen is sent to live with Lord Ormund Hightower by Alicent and becomes his cupbearer and squire. And because he’s a Targaryen he obviously has his dragon named Tasserion.

In the books it’s not made super clear why he’s sent away by Alicent but he does return to help them fight in the war for the Iron Throne, so it sounds like they could be sowing the seeds for his return!

Theories have been floating about whether the spin off will be tightly linked to Young Sheldon or if the show will completely re brand itself. We know the storyline is going to be focused on the marriage of Georgie and Mandy as they raise their daughter and it will be set after Young Sheldon, airing on CBS. Of course, Emily Osment and Montana Jordan from Young Sheldon will be reprising their roles, thank goodness.

From the knowledge so far, I would be expecting something very different to what we’ve seen before. For starters, the filming is entirely different and there will be live people in the audience, which is very old school. I’m just waiting for some content to drop on the Instagram now. Here’s all the latest juicy details that have been confirmed about Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage:

We have the logo!

A new Instagram account means some content is coming! Notice that first is underlined? There have been some theory speculations about whether Georgie is going to get re-married, as this happens later in The Big Bang Theory. So, the emphasis on first could leave a gap for writers to spin a relationship storyline that maybe isn’t so linear for the pair.

I would say the logo is rather bland in colour and gives a serious vibe so hopefully there are some fun teasers coming our way. The producers Steve Holland and Steve Molaro reshared this new logo meaning it was definitely official.

There will be a live studio audience *laughs out loud*

Hearing that there is going to be a live studio audience and a multi camera sitcom shot, reminds me of old Disney Channel shows where the laughter track was a prominent feature. This isn’t common nowadays for sitcoms and could be a risk for a brand new show, especially a spin off. It will be interesting to see if the laughter from the audience makes it distracting to watch since most shows, like Young Sheldon, tend to stick to single camera filming.

On this addition to the show, producer Holland said to TV insider that it was important to “separate Georgie and Mandy from Young Sheldon so it doesn’t feel like we’re just doing Young Sheldon Season 7.5. We want to make it feel like its own show and stand on its own. We’ve missed doing audience shows.”

There will be new characters and storylines

Everyone’s been so side tracked on thinking about whether the Young Sheldon cast are returning that the prospect of new characters has been side lined. I do think in order for the spin off to work there needs to be an individual brand and identity otherwise it will just be compared back to Young Sheldon all the time.

Producer Steve Holland said to TV Insider: “It seems like there’s a whole world of stories that we can tell. We get to bring in new characters – (some) that people already know. But we get to tell entirely brand-new stories, and the show can go anywhere we decide to take it.”

But some familiar faces from Young Sheldon are returning

So the Young Sheldon cast haven’t really confirmed or denied anything about appearing in the spin off, probably due to the fact that the show hasn’t even come out yet. We know that Will Sasso and Rachel Bay Jones will be returning as Mandy’s parents, which leaves a gap in the door for some others to return too.

Holland has teased that the spin off is still set in the same town, Medford Texas. If I can bump into people I know in Tesco then I’m sure Young Sheldon characters can bump into Georgie and Mandy. The producer said: “Georgie and Mandy still live in Medford (Texas), and I think we’re going to see familiar faces from time to time. We might see a Meemaw.” So, it’s highly likely there will be old faces but it’s all hush hush right now.

We know that the show will start one month after the season finale of Young Sheldon which means the emotional finish of the show could translate over to Georgie and Mandy.

The show is set to start later on in 2024, so maybe Autumn time the show will be released on CBS. I mean, around four months away isn’t too long a wait. Instead of sulking for the release date just go and re watch The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon, I know I will be doing that.

Olivia Cooke kept tight-lipped about who the sex scene was with but went into detail about the type of scene it was, alongside her thoughts about it not making the final version of House of the Dragon.

In an interview with Elle, she discussed filming the scene: “It was messy as f*ck. It wasn’t beautiful, and that was really fun to do.” She added that the sex was “carnal” and “animalistic,” adding: “I think Ryan said we weren’t learning any more about the characters, which I disagree with slightly, but it’s okay. It’s his show.”

However, she praised the on-set intimacy coordinator, Vanessa Coffey, and explained that she feels as though the sex scenes don’t feel like they’re being “gratuitous” and instead help to show Alicent’s story. She explained: “I thought there’d be way more, and so I’m relieved that when it has been used for me, it’s showing Alicent being pleasured, which is amazing and doesn’t feel gratuitous,” she said. “It feels like we’re telling a story.”

Micah appeared on the Viall Files to discuss her time on the show and revealed that Kaz actually kissed an “unnamed” co-star during the Perfect Match press tour. Yikes. After she discovered what happened she confronted Kaz about the accusations and he obviously denied them, but Micah then contacted the girl who confirmed they were true.

Micah revealed: “I don’t think I need to say a lot for people to draw their own conclusions to what happened. I mean it was pretty much written in stone, what anyone could have guessed, happened. He continued to explore other options once the cameras were off and I wasn’t interested in exploring other options and I was under the impression we weren’t doing that. I was like ‘Is there another kissing competition?’ There was another kissing competition off camera, let’s just say that.”

Michah clarified that whilst she wouldn’t say who Kaz kissed it was someone else from off the show. She added: “It definitely happened. I heard about it, Harry and I were off filming some press and I was gone for the day and that’s when it happened. I heard about it the following day, he denied whatever happened. I called her and she told me, it did. I looked at him, and, for a lack of a classier way, I was like, ‘You’re dead to me. Never speak to me again.'”

Back in March, four sources from Queer Eye productions and three former colleagues who worked there spoke anonymously to Rolling Stone and described Jonathan, who uses they/them pronouns, behind the scenes as a “nightmare” and that they ”at least once a day would need to yell at somebody.”

On Wednesday’s episode of Table Manner’s podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Jonathan broke their silence on the allegations for the first time. They acknowledged some of the specific claims such as yelling at people and said: “I could have done better.”

Apparently Jonathan and their cast mates knew about the Rolling Stone article in December, before it was released in March, and they said on the podcast: “Information was taken out of context” to make them look “as bad as possible.”

On knowing the article would eventually be released they said: “I was walking on eggshells being like, ‘When is this going to happen?’ And then it finally did happen.”

The 37-year-old star then spoke out on the backlash they received: “I think a lot of people were looking for a reason to hate me or looking for a reason to be like, ‘See, I always knew that they were a fake c*nt, and this is the proof’.

”My family was so supportive of my husband and my team, but I didn’t even get on social media or, like, look at my phone for three weeks.”

Other Queer Eye stars also faced allegations, as the Rolling Stone article claimed there had been “petty disputes and competition” in the group.

Back in March, Queer Eye cast member Tan France responded to the claims in the article about trying to get Bobby Berk fired, posting an Instagram apology.

He said in the video: “My former colleague getting fired had nothing to do with me trying to get my friend hired. I didn’t put my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job.”

Jonathan Van Ness’ management have not responded further to the situation.
